Siobhán Kilkelly
Ciarán O'Connell, flute
Siobhan Kilkelly’s career in organ was encouraged when as a pupil of John Dexter in St Patrick’s Cathedral Dublin she became organ scholar. She later took the same post in Trinity College and continued further studies with Peter Sweeney in the College of Music. She holds an FTCL diploma in organ performance and a Masters in Organ (Performance) from DIT specializing in the music of nineteenth-century French organ music under the guidance of renowned Dutch organist Ben van Oosten. Today she combines her post as lecturer in piano in TU Dublin Conservatoire with that of freelance organist, and regularly collaborates with choirs and instrumentalists.
She performs as a duo with flautist Ciaran O Connell and together they have explored a wide range of repertoire and uncovered exciting contemporary music for flute and organ. This has led to many concerts throughout Ireland in particular Dublin, Tullamore, Dún Laoghaire, Galway and Limerick, all as part of organ recital series and most recently a lunchtime concert in Sandford Church in Dublin. Collaboration with Irish harpists Grainne Hambly and Anne-Marie O’Farrell resulted in a commissioned work from Anne-Marie for Irish Harp and Organ ‘Airs and Grace Notes’. Siobhan is organist in St Stephen’s Church (The Pepper Canister) in Dublin.
Ciarán O'Connell is a lecturer in flute performance at TU Dublin Conservatoire. In the early part of his career he was a busy freelance flute player, playing regularly with the NSO, RTECO, ICO and in pit orchestras for many musical theatre and opera productions in Dublin theatres. He has performed in various orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout Ireland, and in Germany, France, UK and USA. Ciarán has a passion for teaching and from the early stages of his flute playing a love of chamber music. He has played in duos with guitar, wind quintets and for many years now with the organist Siobhán Kilkelly. Performances include Kilkenny Arts Festival, the NCH, Áras an Uachtaráin and flute and organ recitals in Dun Laoghaire, Galway, Limerick, Tullamore, Saint Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, the Unitarian Church, Saint Stephen’s The Peppercanister and Summer Music at Sandford.
