Desmond Hunter
The recipient of organ-playing awards at conservatoire, national and international levels, Desmond Hunter has given numerous solo concerts throughout Europe and in the USA and Canada, including performances in the Royal Festival Hall, London, Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris, Bruges Cathedral, Westminster Cathedral, London, and on the famous Müller organ in the Bavokerk in Haarlem, Holland. In 2003 he was invited to give an organ recital in Antwerp Cathedral to celebrate the centenary of the birth of the celebrated Belgian organist and composer, Flor Peeters, with whom he studied at the Antwerp Conservatoire. His appearances in major festivals include performances in the St Alban’s International Organ Festival, the Festival International de l’Orgue Ancien, Sion, Switzerland, and the Koszalin Organ Festival, Poland.
He has appeared as concerto soloist with major orchestras and his broadcasts for BBC Radio 3 include performances with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, under the late Sir Charles Groves, first broadcast performances of works by Raymond Warren and Flor Peeters and two programmes of early keyboard music (on the oldest playable organ in the world) in the Cathedral of Valère, Sion, Switzerland.
