James Taylor began his musical education as a cathedral chorister at Southwell Minster in the United Kingdom. He graduated with an honours BMus from Huddersfield University in 1998 and an MA in 1999, completing his postgraduate studies in 2006 at McGill University Montreal in Quebec and specialising in organ and harpsichord. He has held church music posts at Ripon Cathedral (UK), Wellington Cathedral of St Paul, New Zealand and Christchurch Cathedral, Montreal. He has performed concerts across Canada and the United States, in Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland and New Zealand, and he has participated in numerous television and radio broadcasts as a soloist and accompanist. He is assistant director of music at St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, Cork, where he recently completed a recording on the newly restored organ, featuring works by Balbastre, Ruppe, Richter, Litaize, Slodegal, Karg-Elert, Reger and Whitlock.

James Taylor is also a lecturer at the Cork Institute of Technology Cork School of Music, teaching organ and harpsichord, analysis, harmony, counterpoint and historical performance practice. He conducts the award-winning vocal ensemble Madrigal '75, with whom he has toured in Italy, Switzerland and Spain. In 2015 he directed Madrigal '75 and the Cork Baroque Orchestra in performances for gala concerts at the Cork International Choral Festival and East Cork Early Music Festival.
