Nigel was born in Belfast and educated at Methodist College, Belfast and the Royal College of Music, London, where he was a prize-winning student. During his time in London, Nigel held organ scholarships at Mill Hill School and the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban, where he worked with Dr Barry Rose as master of the music. After graduation Nigel returned to Belfast as director of music at St George’s Parish Church, where he directed five acclaimed recordings with the men and boys’ choir, and recorded regularly for the BBC. Many of his organ scholars achieved scholarships in Oxford and Cambridge. In September 1999, Nigel returned to London to research choral techniques in the form of a MMus degree at the Royal College of Music, and was Director of Music at Croydon Parish Church, South London. He was a music master at Whitgift, and vocal coach to Clifton Lodge School, Ealing. Recent organ recital venues include Westminster Abbey, Magdalen College, Oxford and the Fairfield Halls, Croydon. In October 2007 Nigel was appointed director of music at St Peter’s Cathedral where he works with the senior voices choir, and in March 2008 established St Peter’s Cathedral Schola Cantorum.
